Danielle Brooks opens up about life in the limelight since her portrayal of Sofia in The Color Purple.
In an exclusive chat with Baller Alert, she revealed that transitioning from Broadway to television has posed challenges, particularly when navigating red carpets and interviews.
“The work itself is my passion and therapy,” she explained. “It’s the interviews and Q&A sessions that can be trickier for me.”
Brooks attributed this difficulty not to her introverted nature but to the industry’s history of tearing down individuals, particularly black women. “I’m cautious because I know how quickly this industry can break you down.”
While she’s enjoyed gradually sharing more of herself with the world and bringing her partner along, Brooks admitted to moving cautiously.
As for downtime, Brooks chuckled, stating, “What’s that? I’m always working.”
She revealed that she’ll soon jet off to New Zealand to wrap up filming for Minecraft, an upcoming adventure film based on a popular video game.
Despite her jam-packed schedule, Brooks expressed immense gratitude for the opportunities she’s been given.
