In celebration of the collaboration between CBS and the NAACP for the development of ‘The Gates,’ marking the return of a Black daytime soap after 35 years, it’s essential to acknowledge the significant contributions of Black actors to television’s top soap operas.

These actors, among others, have left an indelible mark on the landscape of daytime television, showcasing the importance of diversity and representation in storytelling.

Among the most memorable is Kristoff St. John, whose portrayal of Neil Winters on “The Young and the Restless” from 1991 until his passing in 2019.  Equally impactful was Victoria Rowell’s portrayal of Drucilla Winters on the same show, spanning from 1990 to 2007.

Who can forget Vivica A. Fox, who brought depth and complexity to her character Stephanie Simmons on “Generations,” a pioneering series that aired from 1989 to 1991.
