One man has been arrested, while another is being sought for making off with $1.8 million worth of Hermes Birkin bags on Miami Beach.
The heist unfolded on Tuesday when police received a call around 3:00 a.m. about a burglary at the Maison Wrist Aficionado store at the Setai Hotel at 2001 Collins Avenue. Officers found significant evidence that the luxury store had been looted when they arrived. The store’s front door was propped open. They turned their attention to surveillance footage, which documented the daring robbery. In the video, one man wearing black pants and a yellow raincoat exited a stolen van before popping the locks on the door. Another man, Eduardo Travieso Garcia, got out of the vehicle and brought a gray garbage bin to the front door, with the other suspect bringing a second bin. The men then pulled the containers into the store and filled them with around 60 Hermès Birkin bags, which typically start at $10,000 and can get into the six figures. After running out with their stolen goods, they threw the bins into the van, with Garcia fleeing in an orange Hyundai Santa Fe parked nearby.
It didn’t take long for the police to track the men down by their license plate numbers. Garcia was tracked at his home in Olympia Heights. Upon his arrest, he admitted to the brazen crime, and shockingly, police learned of a similar jewelry heist that Garcia committed in May 2023.Â
Garcia is being held on a $100,000 bond, charged with first-degree grand theft, burglary, and unlawful use of a communications device, Local 10 confirms. It doesn’t appear that his accomplice has been located. The bags also remain missing.Â
