More big names have been announced as part of the Michael Jackson biopic.
Larenz Tate will portray the role of Motown Records founder and renowned talent scout Berry Gordy. Kat Graham will play the role of singer Diana Ross, who was Jackson’s close friend over the years. Graham is known for roles in productions such as “Love in the Villa,” “Collide,” and “All Eyez On Me.” Tate, on the other hand, is considered one of Black Hollywood’s greats, starring in classics such as “Love Jones,” “Menace II Society,” and “Dead Presidents.” He also played the role of producer Quincy Jones in the 2004 Ray Charles biopic, “Ray.”
The “Michael” biopic is becoming one of film’s most highly anticipated projects. The movie will showcase the life and career of the most famous of the Jackson 5 members, from his time in the group to his solo career. Other casting announcements in recent weeks have been Jessica Sula as Jackson’s sister, La Toya Jackson, and Liv Symone as Gladys Knight. Colman Domingo and Nia Long will play the Jackson parents, Joe and Katherine Jackson. The singer’s real-life nephew, Jaafar Jackson, will tackle the lead role and “Insecure” star Kendrick Sampson, who played the part of Nathan in the series, will bring to life this production’s Quincy Jones.
The Antoine Fuqua-directed movie is set to premiere on April 18th, 2025. According to Variety, Lionsgate will handle the film’s domestic release, while Universal will handle overseas distribution.
