In a shocking turn of events that has sent social media into a frenzy, Addison Pierre Maalouf, known as YourFellowArab on social media platforms, has reportedly been kidnapped in Haiti. Friends of the Atlanta-based influencer have sounded the alarm, stating that a staggering ransom of $600k is being demanded for his release.
Maalouf, who has carved out a niche for himself by searching into the world of criminals and gangs through his videos, ventured into Haiti on a mission to interview the notorious warlord, Jimmy “Barbecue” Cherizier. However, since his arrival in the country, which is currently grappling with unusual levels of violence, Maalouf’s whereabouts have become a matter of grave concern.
The YouTube star, of Lebanese descent, is well-regarded for his daring content, often placing himself in situations to shed light on the dark corners of global societies. His last update on social media was on March 12, leaving his followers anxiously awaiting news on his safety.
The situation in Port-au-Prince, where Maalouf was last known to be, is dire, with civilians caught in the crossfire of escalating gang violence. In response to inquiries, a spokesperson for the US State Department Bureau of Consular Affairs emphasized the priority of the safety and security of US citizens abroad, acknowledging awareness of the kidnapping reports. They reiterated the standing travel advisory against traveling to Haiti, highlighting the risks.
Maalouf’s disappearance and the subsequent kidnapping claim have underscored the dangerous nature of his work. Known as a “traveler, comedian, and storyteller,” his journey into the heart of Haiti’s turmoil has now become a harrowing tale of its own. The international community, especially his fans and followers, remains hopeful for his safe return, as efforts to contact the US Embassy and Maalouf’s team continue.
