Ice Spice is making her big-screen debut alongside Denzel Washington.
On Wednesday, it was revealed that the “Deli” rapper has already begun filming “High and Low.” The crime thriller is the English version of the 1963 Japanese film directed by Akira Kurosawa. Spike Lee is taking the lead on this one, which follows the chain of events after a wealthy businessman pays a hefty ransom. Jeffrey Wright and Ilfenesh Hadera are also starring in the movie.
It’s unclear what part Spice is playing, but The Hollywood Reporter lists it as a “cameo role,” which indicates that she may only be appearing as herself for a small portion. Nevertheless, this is a huge deal for Spice, who has quickly risen to fame over the past years, releasing her inaugural “Bully Freestyle” in 2021.
The announcement of “High and Low” continues the trend of Spice’s successful 2024. She was nominated for four Grammy awards this year, including Best New Artist. Her highly anticipated studio album, “Y2K,” is expected to be unveiled in the upcoming months.
“High and Low” will be distributed in theaters by A24. Apple Original Films will present the movie on AppleTV+ afterward. Lee has big shoes to fill with “High and Low,” as the original was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Foreign Film. Spice hasn’t spoken out about her latest milestone yet, though she retweeted an article about her first cinema project.
