Tension Rises During Young Thug’s YSL RICO Case When Witness Refuses to Cooperate: “What This Got to do With Me?” [Video]

On episode 56 (Day 56) of the ongoing YSL RICO trial involving rapper Young Thug, tensions flared when witness D’angelo White became combative and refused to cooperate with the prosecution.

The Cleveland native initially answered questions about his background but grew increasingly resistant when questions shifted toward Young Thug.

“What this got to do with me?” he said. “This ain’t got nothing to do with me. I shouldn’t be here,” and reiterated, “I shouldn’t be here.”

White’s defiance escalated as he continued those same questions, leading to a courtroom recess due to his refusal to respond further.

On Wednesday (April 10), White expressed his grievances, claiming the state was “holding me against my will” and accusing prosecutors of wanting him to “tell on somebody I don’t know.”

This isn’t the first time something like this has happened in the trial. In March, another witness said he was “so high right now” and almost fell asleep. The lawyers for the defense also asked to have fewer witnesses because the trial was taking so long. They started with 700 witnesses and now have only 200.

The case has been criticized for how it might unfairly use an artist’s work against them. This got more attention when Drake spoke out after a private phone call from jail with Young Thug and his girlfriend, Mariah The Scientist, was leaked.

Drake said on Instagram, “Whole case is a wash. Just [free] the guy and let him come home and continue bringing light to Atlanta.” A legal expert then told Complex that this leak could be a reason for a lawsuit.

Since its start on November 27, 2023, the trial has seen only 56 actual court days and shows no signs of concluding soon. A defense attorney recently suggested that the trial could extend for up to three years at its current rate. Georgia has charged Young Thug and five co-defendants with running a violent street gang responsible for various criminal activities across Atlanta over the past decade.
