The fashion world mourns the loss of Roberto Cavalli, who died at the age of 83.

The Italian news agency ANSA reported that the designer died at home in Florence following a long illness.

Cavalli was born into an artistic family and inherited his creative spirit from his grandfather, Giuseppe Rossi, a prominent member of the Macchiaioli movement. Rossi’s works are proudly displayed in the Uffizi Gallery, underlining the artistic lineage that influenced Cavalli.

Cavalli’s fashion career was marked by a distinctive artistic sensibility that he honed while studying at the Art Institute in Florence. His designs, known for their flamboyant prints and luxurious materials, reshaped the fashion landscape, blending fine art with modern couture in a way that was unmistakably his own.

The designer’s innovative approach and his legacy in linking art history with contemporary fashion will be remembered and celebrated within the industry and beyond.

May he rest in peace.
