Fisk University’s very own Morgan Price just made history by clinching the 2024 USAG Women’s Collegiate Gymnastics Nationals in West Chester, Pennsylvania. With stellar scores—9.850 on the floor, 9.850 on the vault, 9.8 on the bars, and 9.750 on the beam—Price racked up an impressive total of 39.225, crowning her as the All-Around champion. This victory is particularly monumental as it marks her as the first gymnast from a Historically Black College and University (HBCU) to achieve this feat.
Reflecting on her groundbreaking achievement, Price shared, “It feels good because of the hard work that has been put in. Honestly, I didn’t know where I would place, but it was a pleasant surprise. I am still trying to take all this in.” Her next challenge will be on Sunday, where she will compete in the individual event finals across bars, vault, and floor exercise.
Adding to the historic nature of this win is the fact that her coach, Corrinne Tarver, herself was the first African American woman to win the All-Around Gymnastics Championship back in 1989. Now, she has the distinct honor of being the first to coach an All-Around champion at an HBCU. “This moment is all about Morgan,” Tarver expressed, brimming with pride. “I am extremely proud of the dedication she has to her craft. I am anticipating her doing well in the individuals.”
Morgan Price’s victory is not just a win for her; it’s a landmark moment for Fisk University and HBCUs across the nation.
