Unexpected superstar Sexyy Red has reeled us in with a string of club bangers, and it all began with a viral moment years before she took over the rap game.
In 2018, a little-known Sexyy dropped a track and video for “Ah Thousand Jugs.” The hilarious visual followed the St. Louis star strolling through the streets with a rather large gun and a nondescript white man as she rapped over the famous “A Thousand Miles” instrumental by Vanessa Carlton. At the time, what was believed to be a parody spread across social media, though not many would know Sexyy’s name until years later when the hit record “Pound Town” took off in 2023, even earning a guest verse from Nicki Minaj.
Aside from more twerk-inducing tracks, such as “SkeeYee,” “Looking for the H**s,” Hellcat SRTs,” and “Bow Bow Bow,” Sexyy has offered us several relatable glimpses into her life, which highlighted the experience of women growing up in the hood and Black motherhood while living in “hustle culture.”

Moreover, Sexyy serves as living proof that female rappers can maintain their regional colloquialism and distinctive style while thriving in an industry that historically hasn’t always embraced Black and brown women from the South and Midwest.
