Candiace Dillard Bassett of “Real Housewives of Potomac” is expecting her first child with her husband, Chris Bassett.
The former RHOP star and her husband shared their joy in an exclusive interview with Entertainment Tonight.
“I am about 13 weeks … so just about into the second trimester,” she revealed to the outlet. “It’s been weird, but also really wonderful, I think, to keep it kind of to ourselves to this point. … It’s just been, like, kind of quietly just growing a bun.”
The announcement follows her decision not to return to “RHOP” after a drama-filled six-year run, starting from season 7.
“As I embark on a new chapter after six remarkable years with The Real Housewives of Potomac, I am filled with gratitude for the enriching friendships, personal growth, and moments of introspection that have defined this journey,” Candiace expressed. “With a whirlwind of new opportunities and responsibilities on my plate, I have decided to take a break from RHOP.”
She hinted that she might not be gone from the franchise permanently, adding, “This is not a farewell, but a ‘see you later.’”
Candiace also expressed her love and gratitude to her fans: “Your unwavering support has been my guiding light, and I look forward to the exciting adventures that lie ahead—and more importantly, sharing them all with you!”
The couple met at a restaurant in Washington, D.C., where he was the manager, and she was a server. They got engaged in May 2017 and tied the knot in August 2018 at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium in D.C., a beautiful event that was featured on the show.
Candiace is a stepmom to Chris’s three children from a previous relationship and had been waiting for the right time to have a biological child. “But then I got the itch,” she told ET. I always wondered, like, how would I know when I was ready? And I always felt like a part of my anxiety was that I wasn’t sure that I would know, and when I knew, it was undeniable.”
The couple underwent in vitro fertilization (IVF) in January, choosing from embryos they had previously frozen.
She shared that they are still unaware of the baby’s gender, but she is thrilled about becoming part of the “mom community,” a world she has long observed from a distance. “It’s going to be exciting to join that community, learn, and grow as a member,” she said.
