If you recall, Ray Rice and his fiancé, Janay Palmer, were involved in a domestic dispute at a Atlantic City casino which resulted in Rice dragging her out of an elevator by her feet like a dirty rag doll.  The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office has charged the Baltimore Ravens star with one count of third degree aggravated assault, a felony that could land him in jail for 3 to 5 years.

Rice maintains that he was provoked to hit Janay after she spit on him and at the time of the assault both parties were charged but the case against Janay has since been dismissed. Investigators say the alleged assault was caught on surveillance.

Rice’s attorneys feel that the third free aggravated assault charge should be thrown out as well.

“On behalf of Ray Rice, we vehemently deny that Mr. Rice committed an aggravated assault,” Diamondstein told The Press of Atlantic City. “Both Mr. Rice and Miss Palmer are together, they are happy and they’re in counseling.

“Ray Rice is not going to put blame on Janay Palmer,” Diamondstein added, according to the Sun. “The state chose only to prosecute Ray Rice, and we ask that the public reserve judgment until all the facts come out.”
