Elon Musk‘s X platform is expanding its video presence by introducing a dedicated app for smart TVs.

The X video app made its debut on Tuesday. It has several notable features, including a trending video algorithm, AI-powered trending topics, and seamless cross-device compatibility.

This means users can start watching content on their phones and seamlessly continue on their TV screens.

At launch, the X TV app will be ad-free, as confirmed in a message sent to the company’s corporate partners. However, plans are in place to monetize the platform in the future, potentially through various partnerships, including advertising.

The company also shared a preview video showcasing the TV app experience, offering a glimpse of what users can expect.

The preview included snippets of Tucker Carlson’s interview with Vladimir Putin and footage of a SpaceX rocket launch, highlighting Musk’s other venture.

Under the leadership of CEO Linda Yaccarino, a former NBCUniversal advertising executive, video has become a focal point for X.

In addition to allowing users to upload their own content, such as YouTube, the platform has secured deals with third parties, such as a multiyear agreement with Range Media Partners. This deal includes a show hosted by sports personality Jim Rome alongside programs featuring Tulsi Gabbard and Don Lemon.

Musk canceled Lemon’s show even before its premiere following a tense interview between the CEO and the former CNN host.

It was noted that X has also partnered with WWE to stream Speed matches weekly, further expanding its video offerings.

Many tech platforms have made the living room their prime focus, with YouTube often highlighting its significant viewership on TV apps, even surpassing Netflix.

Similarly, TikTok has ventured into the TV app space, emphasizing its investment in this area.

While X primarily focuses on text and image-driven content for real-time information, its video business is steadily growing, marking an exciting new direction for the platform.
