Eight Years Later, Drake’s ‘Views’ Still Has Fans Reminiscing on Summer ’16

Drake’s fourth studio album, “Views,” dropped on April 29th, 2016, and remains one of the most monumental projects in his discography, with production from Kanye West and Southside, to name a few. The 20-track project spawned feel-good hits such as “Hotline Bling,” “Too Good” featuring Rihanna, and “One Dance“ featuring Kyla and Wizkid, a single that was a staple in parties and clubs throughout the heated months of 2016, making it a cultural touchstone.

“Views“ seamlessly blends elements of hip-hop, R&B, and dancehall, which helped propel the album to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 charts, moving over one million units in its first week. “Views“ went on to spend multiple weeks atop the Billboard 200, with “One Dance,“ in particular, holding the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100 for an impressive ten weeks. The album was nominated for multiple Grammys, including Album of the Year and Best Rap Album. “Hotline Bling“ secured two awards during the 59th Annual ceremony for Best Rap Song and Best Rap/Sung Performance. Today, “Views“ is eight times platinum, proving that it remains the soundtrack of 2016, one of the most adored years for music releases. 

On this rejoiced anniversary, fans are revisiting “Views” and the impact it left behind.

When Views first dropped, I was convinced it was Drake’s worst album. Took me about a year to realize that it was easily top 3.

I think “ views” by drake is more than likely a classic though. It’s songs on there that just capture moments. Very cohesive. I know people prolly hated his dancehall patois era but he made that shit work.
