Drake and The Weeknd have both dealt with shootings that were close to home in recent days, and social media can’t help but speculate that these instances are connected.Â
The first shooting occurred on Monday, April 29th, when a security officer was shot in Encino, California, at the home of The Weeknd’s co-manager, Amir “Cash” Esmailian. Some outlets have reported the incident as a home invasion, with the guard once listed in critical condition, though he is expected to survive.Â
Fast forward to Tuesday, May 7th, when bullets also struck a security guard at Drake’s property. The circumstances are unclear, but Toronto police confirmed the individual was working as security at the “Take Care” rapper’s home when he was shot. He was reported to be in serious condition, though he is also expected to make a full recovery.Â
There is no concrete evidence to suggest the shootings are related, but social media seems to think so. The main reason is their current musical feuds.  The Weeknd was featured on Metro Boomin’ and Future’s albums “We Don’t Trust You” and “We Still Don’t Trust You.“ Drake has since name-dropped him in the beef on “Family Matters.”
“Weeknd music gettin’ played in all the spots where boys got a little more pride/That’s why all your friends dippin’ to Atlanta, payin’ just to find a tour guide/ Abel, run your f****n‘Â bread, need to buy some more chains for some more guys,“Â Aubrey stated.
While The Weeknd didn’t call out Drake by name, these bars were likely in response to The Weeknd’s lyrics on “All to Myself,” track eight on “We Still Don’t Trust You.”
“They could never diss my brothers, baby/ When they got leaks in they operation/ I thank God that I never signed my life away,“ the singer shared.Â
If you’ve been keeping up with Kendrick Lamar’s many disses toward Drake, he has also claimed people within Drizzy’s camp were spilling his tea, which aligns with The Weeknd’s “leaks in they operation“ bar.Â
Unfortunately, this back-and-forth has led to a wave of theories amongst OVO and XO fans. Neither has addressed their rivalry potentially taking a dark turn, and hopefully, they never have to.Â
The Weeknd said they shooters doing Tik Toks
Drake said they ran from the 6 and dissed cash
Then he. Came back and Said ain’t a real shooter all the while
CASH house get shot up
Then DRAKE house get shot uo

Charlamagne calls out people who are creating the false narrative that the current Kendrick Lamar vs. Drake rap beef is connected to the drive-by shooting that occurred at Drake's Toronto home, which resulted in Drake's security guard getting shot.

That shooting probably has nothing to do with Drake vs Kendrick but i know Twitter will try hard to connect it anyway.

If somebody told me The Weeknd n Drake hit men would be shooting each other in 2024 I would say you’re lying and on crack 😂

I hate irresponsible journalism. For a shooting that could be completely unrelated we now have two unnecessary narratives:
1) Kendrick sent shooters or fans ready to ride for him which sets a dangerous precedent.
2) Drake set this up to garner sympathy.
This is ridiculous.
