Patrick Beverley has a tough time controlling his emotions due to his passion for basketball. His interaction during the final minute of their blowout loss to the Indiana Pacers in Game 6 is inexcusable, and the NBA agreed. A trash-talking fan and Beverley went back and forth as he exited the court. After their exchange, he asked for the fan to pass the ball back as he launched it at a male fan, and it also hit the female counterpart he was with.
After this horrible decision-making, Beverly made an even worse decision by telling an ESPN colleague she couldn’t ask him a question because she was not subscribed to his podcast. Poor judgment, and even days after trying to walk it back, Beverly has stained his reputation, which already was not the cleanest. The NBA doubled down on their punishment, suspending Beverly on his day off.
Beverly will miss four games without pay to start the season next year, as announced by Executive Vice President Joe Dumars Thursday.
Compared to the punishment Ja Morant received and other players, some fans seem to think this suspension was not long enough.
