On Monday, Sean “Diddy” Combs was crowned Charlamagne tha God‘s “Donkey of the Day” following his apology after a disturbing video of him assaulting his ex-girlfriend Cassie surfaced.
On Friday afternoon, CNN released footage from 2016 that showed Combs physically assaulting his then-girlfriend in a hotel hallway. By Sunday morning, the Bad Boy founder took to Instagram with an apology that many, including Charlamagne tha God, were not buying.
“When I saw that video, I was disgusted and disappointed. Diddy needs his ass beat,” Charlamagne told listeners on Monday. “I wish Cassie would have had a gun on her and would have shot him right there on the spot,” he continued. “That’s my initial reaction because that’s how I always feel when I see situations like this.”
While criticizing Combs, Charlamagne acknowledged Diddy’s cultural significance but condemned his actions, calling them a betrayal of his legacy.
He went on to heavily criticize Diddy’s apology for being disingenuous.
“When I first watched that video, I said to myself, ‘Negro, please,'” Charlamagne said. “He’s not sorry; he’s sorry that video leaked and he’s sorry he got caught.”
Charlamagne pointed out that Diddy had previously vehemently denied the allegations until the video surfaced and that his apology lacked sincerity. Charlamagne argued that Diddy is more concerned with saving his reputation than taking responsibility for his actions.
The “Donkey of the Day” speech concluded with Charlamagne stating that Diddy should focus on rebuilding his personal life and repairing the damage caused to his family. He suggested that Diddy’s constant reinvention through name changes and other tactics distracts from the real work needed.
