Diddy‘s recent video apology, following the release of a 2016 video showing him assaulting his ex-girlfriend Cassie, has ignited public outrage. Many have criticized him for being disingenuous and failing to directly address his apology to Cassie. However, TMZ reports that there’s a legal reason he didn’t mention Cassie by name in his apology.
As previously reported, Diddy and Cassie settled just one day after she filed her sexual assault lawsuit against him in November. Sources familiar with the agreement told TMZ that the settlement includes a strict non-disclosure agreement (NDA) preventing both parties from publicly discussing each other.
Since the 2016 video surfaced last week, Cassie has remained silent about Diddy. According to sources, Diddy’s attorneys carefully reviewed his video apology before its release to ensure it complied with the NDA, which barred any mention of Cassie by name—even though Diddy reportedly wanted to address her directly.
Cassie’s case is only part of the Bad Boy founder’s recent legal troubles. While her lawsuit has been settled, he is still facing three other lawsuits with similar allegations, including human and sex trafficking.
