Through the glitz and glam of prom, trouble seems to still find its way of interrupting the fun.
Recently, Miami high school Booker T Washington went viral for its elaborate prom theme, which featured costumes from iconic Disney films and fairytales. One pair, in particular, dressed as Belle and Beast from Beauty and the Beast, with realistic headpieces to complement their attire. Other students opted for Cinderella and Prince Charming, pulling up to the event in a horse-drawn carriage.
The videos quickly went viral on TikTok, gaining millions of views and even more comments. However, the joy of the “Beauty and the Beast” couple was short-lived as a TikToker named Meena called the students out for ruining her car. According to Meena, she is a college student who was in search of a new business venture and chose to rent her car out on Turo, a car renting app.
In the video, Meena claimed the students left scratches on the exterior of the vehicle, glitter scattered throughout the inside, and “sticky liquid” on the surfaces. She later provided screenshots showing that she attempted to reach out to the renter to discuss the damages. The renter agreed to pay Meena $350 to cover the cost but the TikToker says she was ghosted and never received the payment.
Of course, the video also gained traction, with the students responding to Meena’s claims. In a video post by @ohdatscita___, the students voiced their side of the story and clarified that they did not rent out Meena’s car. The students showed proof of every response they gave, from receipts showing proof of purchase to debunking the glitter claims as the dress was full of sequins.
@ohdatscita___ @Meena 🤍 now bye baby prom aint even been a whole week yet #fypage #prom2k24
Shortly after, Meena took to TikTok again to apologize to the students. She claims she was given information that led her to believe the vehicles were the same but understands that she caused issues by publicly addressing the situation. Additionally, Meena admits that she was in the wrong but makes it clear that race did not play a part in the discrepancy as she is minority as well. She noted that the students and herself have both received racial messages that she finds “appalling to see.”
Needless to say, we’re unsure if Meena has found the culprit behind the destroyed vehicle but good to know the students were able to clear their names!
@meenakg242 I wanted to make sure that I addressed this properly and not make another quick video. I am genuinely sorry to the young lady. I have definitely learned from this situation and will grow from it. I wish nothing but succcess for all young women, specially women of color.
