“Playoff P” has been a recurring topic on X, formerly known as Twitter. Paul George is a player known for both stepping up and falling short in crucial moments. Despite his talent, he has never made it to a Conference Finals series in his career.
In April 2017, during the first round of the Eastern Conference Playoffs, the clock was winding down when sharpshooting guard CJ Miles put up a tough mid-range shot and missed. After the game, Paul George told the media that he should have been the one to take that shot.
Miles explained that he didn’t pass the ball to George because of the limited time on the clock. Up until that point, George was an all-star looking to get over the hump of never hitting a buzzer-beating game-winner. He mentioned after the game that he and Miles had discussed that he would get the ball for the last shot in the future.
Ironically, during that 2017 NBA season, there was a Gatorade commercial featuring Paul George hitting a game-winner. In game four of the same series against Cleveland, George had his chance to make the shot, but he missed badly, hitting only the backboard.
Jeff Teague shared a hilarious story on his podcast, Club 5/20, about Miles’ reaction to the missed shot. Teague explained CJ’s reaction after the Game 4 loss that ended their season.
“No bull, the same exact thing happened,” Teague told the 5/20 crew. “They threw it to CJ, and CJ fired it to PG, and he missed it. He hit the side of the backboard, a tough shot. Not even close. We get in the locker room, no bull, I’m like ‘damn, season over, f— it, I’m about to go to the crib. Time to have some fun.’ This n—a CJ did me like this.”
Teague extended his arm, showing his co-host how Miles showed his phone to Teague. “It was the Gatorade commercial with the shot on the clock. Somebody had made it, and he had bricked that shot. I was rolling. They added when he bricked the shot, bruh. I was rolling. I was like, ‘my fault, CJ. My fault, bruh. Don’t shoot me, man. That s— was just funny.'”
A hilarious exchange and another infamous Teague story that we appreciate every time he shares one. Check out the hilarious edit, ironically from a game this season, and the clip of the fellas on the latest episode of Club 5/20.
