Will Smith recently revealed a terrifying experience that led him to flee a London hotel in fear. During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the 55-year-old actor shared how haunted technology and a ghostly encounter forced him to evacuate his room.
“I once had to emergency check out of a hotel because of a ghost,” Smith admitted to Fallon. He recounted a nightmarish ordeal at the historic Lanesborough Hotel, a five-star establishment in Knightsbridge.
The spooky incident, which occurred 27 years ago, began when a ghost seemingly tampered with his friend’s phone and toilet. Smith elaborated on the ghostly disturbance, explaining that a phantom used the toilet and erased all messages from his friend’s mobile phone. “The ghost urinated in my friend’s toilet… And cleared all of his messages from his phone,” Smith recalled, eliciting gasps from the audience and a curious question from Fallon about the timeline.
“We assumed [the ghost] was British. But it was scary enough for us to check out of the hotel,” Smith continued, affirming the authenticity of his eerie experience.
The Lanesborough Hotel, formerly St. George’s Hospital, has a history dating back to 1719. Redesigned by National Gallery architect William Wilkins in the 1800s, the building transitioned from a hospital to a luxury hotel in 1991. Its reputed hauntings add to its allure, often whispered about by those who have stayed at the opulent Knightsbridge location.
