Apple Wallet is expanding its capabilities with a new feature called Tap to Cash, which allows users to tap their iPhone or Apple Watch to another device to make payments. Announced at Apple’s annual WWDC event on Monday morning, this feature will be available with iOS 18 and WatchOS 11.
Similar to using AirDrop to send photos or NameDrop to share contact information, Tap to Cash offers a quick and private way to exchange Apple Cash without needing to share phone numbers or email addresses.
“Continuing on our journey to replace your physical wallet, we’re introducing Tap to Cash, a quick and private way to exchange Apple Cash without sharing phone numbers or email addresses,” said Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of software engineering. “With Tap to Cash, you can pay someone back for dinner just by holding your phones together.”
