Shannen Doherty believes her estranged husband is prolonging their divorce in hopes that she’ll die before he has to pay spousal support.
The “Beverly Hills, 90210” alum filed new court documents urging the courts to order Kurt Iswarienko, her soon-to-be ex, to turn over financial records. Specifically, Doherty wants to gain a better understanding of how much Iswarienko has made from his original photography work. Doherty is living with terminal cancer and believes Iswarienko is using this to his advantage.
“It is simply not right that Kurt be permitted to prolong our divorce in hopes that I die before he is required to pay me while he continues to live his life and shirk his responsibilities to his dying wife of more than 11 years,” Doherty wrote in the documents obtained by People.
Doherty filed for divorce in April 2023 after 11 years together. Iswarienko’s attorney, Katherine Heersema, slammed her claims, stating that Doehrty was offered a settlement months after the filing in October 2023. Doherty allegedly refused the deal. It’s unclear how much Iswarienko offered Doherty but Heersema says her client is eager to resolve the divorce and move on.
“Kurt is not ‘simply wait[ing] for Shannen to die,’” attorney Katherine Heersema stated. “He wants the best for Shannen and he wants both of them to be able to put this case behind them and move forward.”
Doherty explained that she denied the settlement because Iswarienko would not reveal the finances surrounding his original work. She is seeking $15,434 in monthly spousal support, likely to assist with her mounting medical bills. In her court documents, Doherty pointed out that her SAG health insurance will soon stop covering her many treatments and her show residuals are being slashed.
Doherty has been unable to work due to her battle with breast cancer. She was first diagnosed with the illness in 2015. As part of her treatment, the 53-year-old underwent a mastectomy, chemotherapy, and radiation. She finally went into remission in 2017, but by 2019, the cancer returned as a stage four, spreading to her brain and her bones. During a January 2024 episode of her “Let’s Be Clear” podcast, she revealed that with her treatments, she expects to live another five more years.
Despite her medical woes, Doherty continues to go after her ex, claiming he lives a lavish lifestyle while cutting off her access to their Texas vacation home, private airplane and funds.
There does not appear to be any sign of a new settlement.
