The Los Angeles Lakers signed former NBA player JJ Redick as their new head coach after six weeks of rumors and speculation. It’s reported that the Lakers’ first choice was the former sharpshooter, even though they courted UCONN’s head coach Dan Hurley before he turned them down.
The press conference was interesting as JJ, who was just formerly part of the NBA media, didn’t shy away from questions or being honest. He claimed that he’s aspiring to win an NBA championship next season. Ahead of the NBA draft this week, Shannon Sharpe claimed that the Lakers’ season expectations are championship or bust.
“If you’re the head coach of the Lakers or the Celtics, the expectation is championships,” Sharpe told the First Take crew. “The Lakers have been to 32 NBA Finals; they’ve won 17. What do you mean, ‘What are the expectations?’ You know what the expectations are. You know what you signed up for. Laker Nation doesn’t expect anything less.”
The Los Angeles Lakers have not made it to the NBA Finals since they went to the bubble and won in 2020. The Western Conference is as competitive as it has been in over ten years.
