Saweetie Talks New Music, Personal Growth, and College Hustle on Baller Alert Show

SAWEETIE - BA Show

In the latest episode of the Baller Alert Show, hosts Ferrari Simmons, OCT, and BT sit down with rapper Saweetie to discuss her music, personal journey, and exciting future projects. The episode is filled with laughter, heartfelt stories, and inspiring moments as Saweetie shares her experiences from growing up in the Bay Area to making it big in the music industry.

Balancing Cultures: Saweetie’s Mixed Background

Saweetie opened up about being biracial and growing up with a Filipino mother and an African American father. She discussed the challenges of navigating different cultural expectations and how this duality shaped her. “Growing up in the Bay area, being mixed is really common,” she said. “But I was the first grandchild to be mixed on both sides.”

From College to the Stage: Saweetie’s Education and Early Career

Saweetie revealed her academic journey, starting at San Diego State before transferring to the University of Southern California. Despite the pressure from her “tiger mom” to excel, she ultimately majored in communication, a decision influenced by an elective course she enjoyed. Reflecting on her college experience, she shared, “San Diego State was really fun, but transferring to USC made it hard to create new friendships.”

Balancing her studies with multiple jobs, Saweetie worked as a receptionist, waitress, and event ambassador. She noted, “I worked like a lot of odd jobs… every time I would pay my rent, my account would go back down to like 20 or 40 dollars. It was real.”

The Birth of a Rap Star: Saweetie’s Rise to Fame

Reflecting on her early days, Saweetie shared how she gained a following on social media and eventually released her breakout single “Icy Girl.” “I was so taken aback by how much coverage I got,” she said, noting that the song’s success led to multiple label meetings. Despite the struggles, including working odd jobs and facing financial instability, she persevered and eventually signed with Warner Records.

New Single “Nani” and Album Hints

Saweetie discussed her new single “Nani,” describing it as “a feeling” and “main character energy.” She expressed gratitude for the positive reception the song received and hinted at the possibility of changing the title of her upcoming album, originally called “Pretty Bitch Music.” The album is expected to drop later this year or early next year.

Mental Health and Personal Growth

The conversation also touched on Saweetie’s mental health journey. She emphasized the importance of prayer, family support, and self-reflection. “I was in the church Sunday through Sunday,” she shared, crediting her grandparents, who were pastors, for instilling strong spiritual values in her. Books like “The Alchemist” have been a source of inspiration, offering new insights with each read.

Responding to Criticism and Staying Grounded

Saweetie addressed the criticism she often faces online, explaining how she uses it as motivation. “I’m really a big fan of alchemy,” she said. “When you’re able to transmute negativity into positivity, it works.” She also discussed the importance of celebrating achievements and practicing gratitude daily to stay grounded. “I really try to practice gratitude… I don’t want to go by life so much to where everything becomes blurred and I don’t appreciate the little things, the medium things, the big things or just anything.”

Acting, Endorsements, and Future Plans

In addition to her music career, Saweetie has ventured into acting, with a role in the upcoming season of “BMF.” She enjoys being part of creative projects where she doesn’t have to lead, allowing her to appreciate others’ visions. Her numerous endorsements, including deals with McDonald’s, Hidden Valley Ranch, and Calvin Klein, highlight her multifaceted brand.

Personal Life: Is Saweetie Single?

When asked about her relationship status, Saweetie playfully responded, “I’m married to the game, baby.” She shared that humor and being a foodie are key to catching her attention but emphasized her focus on her career and personal growth.

Closing Thoughts and Future Aspirations

Saweetie concluded the interview with advice for her fans: “No matter what people say, if you’re doing what you love, never leave money on the table.” She expressed her excitement for future projects and hinted at potential collaborations, including her admiration for Karol G.
