Miami Beach Rescinds ‘Sean Diddy Combs Day’ Amid Abuse Allegations

In a surprising move, the Miami Beach City Commission has decided to rescind “Sean Diddy Combs Day,” initially declared on October 13, 2016, due to the rising abuse allegations against the music mogul.

According to the Miami Herald, this decision came on June 28 after much reflection by the city officials. The day was originally proclaimed to honor Diddy during the third annual REVOLT Music Conference held in Miami Beach. The city stated that continuing to recognize this day was no longer in harmony with their values of safety, community well-being, and respect.

This isn’t the first time Diddy has faced such a revocation. Earlier this month, New York City’s Mayor Eric Adams rescinded Diddy’s key to the city following disturbing allegations and a controversial video involving Cassie, which surfaced online. TMZ reported that Mayor Adams sent letters to Diddy’s offices in New York and Los Angeles, expressing his deep disturbance over the incident and standing in solidarity with domestic abuse survivors.

Mayor Adams made it clear that the key to the city is meant to honor outstanding citizens, a standard Diddy no longer meets. The mayor’s letter also included instructions on how to return the key, marking the first time in history that a key to New York City has been rescinded. Diddy received the letter on June 4 and returned the key on June 10.

Speculation about the withdrawal began in May when Mayor Adams hinted at the possibility during an interview with PIX11. He expressed deep concern over the video showing Diddy assaulting Cassie and mentioned that his team was seriously considering revoking the honor.
