Carmen Bryan, the mother of Nas’ 19 year old daughter Destiny, is speaking out again as a court fight over support and tuition continues.
According to a February 2014 report from The Urban Daily, Carmen filed court documents alleging that Nas has fallen roughly $11,000 behind on child support and has refused to pay for Destiny’s college tuition and medical bills. She reportedly asked the court to hold him in contempt. Those are her allegations. The report did not include a response from Nas or his representatives.
In a new interview with Word On Da Street, Carmen said she does not want to see Nas go to jail. She said she wants him to get help, and that her legal team plans to ask a judge to order a mental evaluation before the case moves forward. She described her view as her personal opinion based on her own experiences with him, not a medical diagnosis. She also said her goal is to make sure Destiny can finish her education, and she pointed to a court order she says requires Nas to pay for Destiny’s college costs.
Carmen said the dispute over tuition began in June of 2013, when she says the payments stopped.
Nas has not publicly responded to Carmen’s claims, and nothing in the reports we reviewed shows a court has ruled on her request. We will update the story when either side speaks or the court acts.
