This week, a minor incident at the BET Awards involving food critic Keith Lee and host Taraji P. Henson sparked a social media debate.
During the ceremony, Henson mistakenly identified Lee as another influencer but still offered him a rose, which he subsequently dropped in a now deleted video.
This action led to criticism from some viewers who interpreted it as disrespect towards Henson. Lee took to social media to clarify the situation and express his frustrations with the event’s organization.
He stated, “The reason I did this had nothing to do with Taraji P Henson. I whole-heartedly believe that wasn’t my rose.”
Lee also described the awards show as “extremely unprepared and unprofessional,” citing last-minute seating changes for himself and his wife.
Seemingly without seeing Lee’s follow-up, Henson addressed the issue on Instagram, downplaying its significance.
She commented under a @morningjuiceboxtv post, “Life really is too short for this behavior,” and explained that Lee wasn’t in his assigned seat during her rehearsed segment. Henson suggested that Lee’s reaction stemmed from a bruised ego, adding, “He will be fine.” She concluded her statement by saying she had resolved the situation by the end of the show.
The contrasting perspectives of Lee and Henson have ignited discussions among fans and observers.
Lee has not yet responded to Henson’s latest comments, but hopefully they’ll be able to leave this in the past and move on.
