Before Young Dolph’s untimely murder, he established his Paper Route Empire music label, and in the years since his death, PRE still holds a special place in hip-hop.
Following the release of his mixtape, “Paper Route Campaign,” in 2008, Dolph founded his imprint of the same name just two years later. Acting as an artist and CEO, the “Major” star pushed not only his music but that of his many artists. One of the label’s standouts remains rapper Key Glock, a cousin of Dolph. After signing him to PRE in 2017, Glock became an instant success. His debut single, “Racks Today,” featured another PRE artist, Jay Fizzle, before he unveiled his debut mixtape the same year he signed titled “Glock Season.” His joint project, “Dum and Dummer,” with Dolph, was presented in July 2019, reaching number eight on the Billboard 200. In the midst of his success with Glock, Dolph was actively pushing other talent. He signed rappers Kenny Muney, Jay Fizzle, Joddy Badass, Big Moochie Grape, Bigg Unccc, Snupe Bandz, Paper Route Woo and Chitana. Dolph put each of his artists on display for the world to experience on the label’s compilation mixtape “Paper Route Illuminati” in July 2021. The 23-track EP showcased the independent music label’s diversity, which Dolph was particularly proud of.
“I really think this tape that I’m finna put out, this compilation tape where everybody is on it just because it’s a mixture, and a variety of a lot of different moods and a lot of different artists,” he told XXL shortly before the body of work was released, adding,” You got everybody on there bringing their creativity to the project and make the project what it is.
Sadly, Dolph passed away on November 17th, 2021, never seeing the full potential of his beloved label and the artists he poured into. Thankfully, many Paper Route artists have released music since his death and continue pushing his PRE vision.
