Van Jones has made several eyebrow-raising statements about the election in recent days, and people are not happy with him.
The political broadcaster covered the Republican National Convention on the CNN panel. During his commentary, he praised model Amber Rose for her RNC speech. The Slut Walk founder made several revelations, such as how she researched Donald Trump and learned that he was not a racist, as she was allegedly led to believe.
“I started meeting so many of you, his red-hat-wearing supporters. And that’s when it hit me: These are my people. This is where I belong; I put the red hat on, too,” she declared, which was just one point met with applause.
Jones claimed Rose’s speech resonated with a larger audience and helped the Republican party in more ways than one. “That is a young woman of color. She is describing the experience that a lot of people have — feeling that maybe, if you’re around too many liberals, you might get criticized too much or you might not be able to speak your mind, and she spoke to it really well,” Jones said on the CNN panel following the speech. He later added, “I would not be surprised if she doesn’t have a political future.”
Jones has also suggested that Trump’s assassination attempt helped his campaign, while the COVID-19 virus hindered Biden’s. Jones believes the Democratic Party is now “coming apart” as the Republicans continue to unite.
Another remark that has turned off fans is comparing the 2024 RNC to the 2008 Democratic National Convention, where President Barack Obama took center stage. “The last time I was at a convention like this was Obama 2008,” Jones stated Thursday night. “There’s something happening.”
Words such as these have led many to believe that Jones plays into Republican narratives. With the election heating up, Jones’ voice will continue to weigh in, even when it’s not desired.
