NBA YoungBoy is reportedly gearing up to plead guilty in his 2020 federal weapons case, marking a significant turn in his ongoing legal struggles. According to local reports from Baton Rouge’s WFAB, the rapper’s attorney, Drew Findling, has filed paperwork indicating his client’s readiness to change his plea.
The case stems from a September 2020 incident in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where NBA YoungBoy, whose real name is Kentrell Gaulden, was arrested alongside 15 others during what appeared to be a music video shoot. The 20-year-old artist was detained after authorities found him in possession of a Glock .45 caliber pistol and a Masterpiece Arms 9 mm firearm equipped with a Magpul RVG Vertical Grip.
As a convicted felon, YoungBoy is facing serious charges of possession of firearms, which could lead to a prison sentence of up to 10 years. His legal team is also working to have the case moved to Utah, where the rapper currently resides and is facing additional legal issues.
YoungBoy has maintained a strong fan base throughout his legal ordeals, with supporters frequently showing up in full force, both online and in person. During a virtual court hearing on July 22, several fans logged on to shout “Free YB” after the rapper’s appearance, only to be informed by the judge that the session had already ended.
No sentencing date has been set for the weapons case, but YoungBoy’s legal team is expected to continue fighting for the best possible outcome as the August 19 arraignment approaches.
