Tyrese recently sat down with The Breakfast Club for an emotional interview where he opened up about managing grief and pain after a tough few years.
As you know, the singer/actor has had to deal with losing his “Fast and Furious” co-star Paul Walker, legendary director John Singleton, and his own mother and sisters.
Additionally, Tyrese has been riding the emotional ups and downs of his divorce and feeling distant from friends after his public breakdown in 2017.
When asked if he’s really taken the time to process everything, Tyrese got choked up and said, “I’m doing the best that I can with every 24 hours that I get.”
Tyrese got real about what it’s like being a Black man dealing with loss and pain. He reminded everyone, “Black men cry. When a divorce happens, women aren’t the only ones devastated. When a miscarriage happens, women aren’t the only ones you should be checking on. When you can’t put food on the table because your career goes up and then it goes down, stop skipping over the man and just checking on the woman.”
He also shared how bad things got in 2021. Financially struggling, he explained, “I was really a masked singer. I needed that mask so f*cking bad. I needed that money from that show so bad. I didn’t have it in me to go stand on that f*cking stage and sing, and thank God I had a mask on.”
