Another New Music Friday has come around, and two of hip-hop’s biggest from two generations have dropped their highly anticipated projects.
LL Cool J has returned with “The Force,” his first new album in 11 years. Weeks ago, he shared the seductive “Proclivities” featuring Saweetie, and back in June, he dropped off “Saturday Night Special” featuring Fat Joe and Rick Ross, showcasing the versatility that has allowed him to remain one of the biggest names in rap for decades. The 14-track project is just under an hour listen, which finds LL’s flow just as sharp as it was in 1985. LL tapped several other heavyweights for his album, including Nas, Eminem, and Busta Rhymes.
Elsewhere in rap, G Herbo released his latest album, “Big Swerv.” Also a 14-track delivery, the project gets assistance from Skilla Baby, Chief Keef, Sexyy Red, and several others. Along with the album, Herbo released the visual for track number 13, “Candyman,” where he addressed his fraud case. Last year, he pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and one count of making a false statement to a federal official. Herbo was sentenced to probation in the case but maintains his innocence in “Candyman.”
“Swerv filthy/Think I’m guilty of identity theft/Gotta better chance of me smoking crystal meth/Gotta better chance of me asking n***as for help,” he raps.
