New Music Friday is here, and lovers of rap, R&B, and even pop have much to be excited about.
A posthumous release from Juice WRLD offers nostalgia for his fans, who continue to mourn his death five years after his passing. The single debuted four days before New Music Friday, allowing fans to sit with this emotional release for a bit.
The Weeknd returned with his highly anticipated song, “Dancing in the Flames.” The pop single is the first from his forthcoming album, “Hurry Up Tomorrow.” The upbeat track is undoubtedly a dance tune accompanied by a visual, which finds the performer singing and stumbling through the rain. The Weeknd is gearing up to close out his album trilogy, which began with “After Hours” in 2020 and “Dawn FM” in 2022. “Hurry Up Tomorrow” does not yet have a solid release date, but its first offering seems to indicate that The Weeknd is once again leaning heavily into his pop lane.
Another pop release that blends elements of hip-hop is Katy Perry’s and Doechii’s single, “I’m His, He’s Mine.” The pair first introduced the song during the Music Video Awards on Wednesday. The fun-filled release was also accompanied by a visual reminiscent of Perry’s early work, which finds the performers in stunning scenes together and separately.
Elsewhere in rap, Playboi Carti made his return with a new single, “All Red.” The record sparked a bit out, as many believed it was leading to an album. Cardi shared an Instagram post that read, “I AM MUSIC. THE ALBUM. LINK IN BIO.” However, the link led to his website, which was only selling merch at this time. This seemed to overshadow the single’s release a bit. Nevertheless, it also gave his die-hard fans something to look forward to.
