In a shocking and disturbing turn of events, a 17-year-old who killed his father in Oklahoma last year and claimed self-defense is now facing first-degree murder charges for allegedly stabbing his mother to death in Florida.
On Sunday, September 8th, the teen, Collin Griffith, called 911 dispatchers from his grandmother’s home in Auburndale, claiming that his mother, 39-year-old Catherine Griffith, “fell into a knife” during a fight they were having, but when deputies arrived, they found him disturbingly calm and showing no remorse. He also had blood on him and immediately told police he wanted to speak with his attorney.
Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd, visibly alarmed, revealed the teen’s chilling history at a Wednesday press conference.
“When you look at this, you see a kid. When I look at him, I see a psychopath,” Judd stated, additionally expressing his fear that, if released, the teen would undoubtedly kill again, calling his behavior erratic and violent.
On February 14th, 2023, the teen shot and killed his father in Lincoln County, Oklahoma. The murder charge was ultimately dropped due to authorities being unable to dispute the teen’s claims of self-defense. After this case concluded, the teen relocated to Florida with his mother. Sadly, there were a series of threats and violent confrontations between the two. Despite previous warnings and even time behind bars, Colin continued to display dangerous behavior, ultimately ending in the horrific murder of his mother.
“Everybody that should be special to him in his life is dead when they cross him,” Sheriff Judd stated.
Colin has now been charged as an adult with first-degree murder, kidnapping, and violation of a no-contact order.
