Kevin Hart is giving a new perspective on being called an “industry plant.”
During a recent sit-down with Charlamagne Tha God, which premiered on Monday, the subject came up when the host asked Hart how it felt to be so successful that people now believe he was carefully positioned to be a top entertainer. Instead of viewing this theory as a dig, the comedian receives this as a positive thing.
“It’s the biggest compliment ever. When you hear things like that…you gotta give a nod to common sense versus lack thereof,” he explained, adding, “If success is that easy, how many different versions of that would you see today?”
The term “industry plant” is believed to have first been used among hip-hop heads to describe musicians who present themselves as having “started from the bottom” with an organic buzz. However, these individuals are believed to have backing from record labels and large corporations, ensuring they blow up. Over the years, this term has trickled down to artists of all genres and entertainers of all realms. Hart is just one example of this, though many of the creators we consume today have been accused of having their paths curated in the industry.
Here are just a handful of our favs who overcame the “industry plant” rumors.
