Nicki Minaj and her husband, Kenneth Petty, are facing renewed legal issues stemming from a 2019 incident involving an alleged assault on a security guard. Plaintiff Thomas Weidenmuller originally filed a lawsuit against the couple in Frankfurt, Germany, following one of Nicki’s concerts. Now, Weidenmuller is seeking to enforce the lawsuit, resulting in a judgment requiring the couple to pay half a million dollars in damages.
The altercation reportedly occurred backstage during Nicki’s 2019 European tour. According to multiple outlets, Weidenmuller, a member of the security crew, got into a heated verbal exchange with Nicki after defending another security guard. Shortly after, Nicki allegedly threw her shoe at Weidenmuller, moments before Kenneth stepped in and broke the man’s jaw.
Initially, Weidenmuller sought $21,000 for his medical expenses and $70,000 for emotional distress and long-term injuries. However, in March 2023, the court reduced the amount to $503,318 in a default judgment after the couple failed to respond to the lawsuit. Recently, Weidenmuller filed a writ of execution to enforce the lawsuit.
As of now, neither Nicki nor Kenneth have addressed the lawsuit. This situation adds to a series of recent legal issues Kenneth has faced. Last year, Kenneth was sentenced to 120 days of house arrest after footage showed him making “threatening remarks toward a specific individual while in the company of someone with a criminal record,” which violated his probation. The 46-year-old received three years of probation after failing to register as a sex offender in California in 2020.
