Google Wallet is about to make traveling much smoother with its new beta feature, which allows you to create a digital ID from your U.S. passport.
This means you can use your digital ID at select TSA checkpoints when flying domestically.
Here’s how it works: Open the Google Wallet app and choose the “create an ID pass with your U.S. passport” option. Then, scan the security chip in your passport and verify your identity with a selfie video.
Google says it usually takes just a few minutes for your ID pass to be ready.
While Google is rolling out this feature, Apple hasn’t announced anything similar for its digital wallet yet.
Also, in the coming months, IDs or driver’s licenses issued in Iowa, New Mexico, and Ohio will be able to be stored in Google Wallet, too.
Traveling just got a tech upgrade!
