The HBCU Week Foundation is gearing up for its 8th annual HBCU Week Wilmington (DE), presented by AstraZeneca, running from September 22-29, 2024. In addition to the Wilmington festivities, the Foundation will host its 2nd HBCU Week College Fair at Walt Disney World Resort on October 23-24, 2024, in partnership with The Sallie Mae Fund.
Ashley Christopher, founder of the HBCU Week Foundation, expressed gratitude for the ongoing support from sponsors like AstraZeneca and The Sallie Mae Fund. “Their commitment to providing high school students with access to the nation’s largest college fair is truly invaluable. Together, we are fostering a future where talented students can pursue their dreams of higher education at HBCUs without the burden of financial constraints,” said Christopher.
HBCU Week Wilmington offers a full schedule of activities, including a gospel brunch, a 5K run presented by Kellogg’s, a middle school college tour, an HBCU Experience panel discussion, and the popular HBCU Battle of the Bands. The week ends with the HBCU College Fair, also presented by The Sallie Mae Fund, where students can explore opportunities for higher education.
On October 23-24, prospective students can attend the HBCU Week College Fair at Walt Disney World Resort. With over 40 HBCU representatives offering on-the-spot admissions and scholarships, the event provides students with direct access to admissions officers and scholarship opportunities. The fair will also include appearances by Disney characters, live music, and special surprises, creating a unique college fair experience.
AstraZeneca’s SVP, Andy Wirths, expressed the company’s dedication to the event, saying, “AstraZeneca is honored to help support young people as they pursue their dreams of higher education. We are proud to partner with the HBCU Week Foundation to champion opportunities for students from all backgrounds to access a quality education.”
The 2024 events are supported by the Future of STEM Scholars Initiative (FOSSI), which has raised nearly $40 million to fund over 800 HBCU scholarships. “FOSSI is thrilled to continue our support of the HBCU Week Foundation,” said Jim Fitterling, Chair of the FOSSI Advisory Board and CEO of Dow. “We are honored to provide students the resources they need to succeed in pursuing a STEM degree from an HBCU.” Additional sponsors for the 2024 events include the City of Wilmington, Wells Fargo, DUPONT, WSFS Bank, Salesforce, Barclays, and Chemours.
Students and families interested in attending the HBCU Week College Fair at Walt Disney World Resort can register at www.HBCUWeek.org. This is a great opportunity to connect with HBCUs, explore admissions, and potentially secure scholarships. Don’t miss out!
