Dame Dash Clears the Air on Reasonable Doubt Copyright Controversy: “Jay-Z Doesn’t Get His Rights Back!”

Dame Dash took to social media to address a heated legal issue involving the copyright ownership of Jay-Z’s classic album Reasonable Doubt. In a candid video post, Dash expressed his frustration over the misinformation being spread regarding who actually holds the rights to the iconic record.

Dash began by highlighting that the confusion stems from a recent court filing by the New York State Department of Social Services (NYCDSS) as part of an ongoing legal dispute between himself, Jay-Z, and Roc-A-Fella Records. According to Dash, Jay-Z has been misleading the public by claiming he will regain full rights to Reasonable Doubt in a few years, under the termination right clause of the Copyright Act.

However, Dash set the record straight, pointing to the court document filed by the NYCDSS, which reveals that Jay-Z does not have the termination rights he claims. Instead, Roc-A-Fella Records retains ownership of the album’s copyright until 2098, thanks to a renewal term of 67 years. This means the album’s value and ownership remain with Roc-A-Fella for the next century.

Video:

“Everyone who’s been promoting that you only get it for six or seven years, you need to correct that,” Dash said, urging media outlets like TMZ, Earn Your Leisure, and The Breakfast Club to amend their coverage of the situation. “Reasonable Doubt rights stay with Roc-A-Fella Inc. for the next hundred years, and it should be worth ten times more.”

The legal battle has been ongoing since 2019, when Dash attempted to auction off his share of Roc-A-Fella Records. The City of New York intervened in the case, citing concerns that Jay-Z’s false statements about the album’s future ownership could negatively impact the auction value, which was meant to cover significant child support arrears.

Dash didn’t hold back, calling out the media for not covering this development and demanding they update their stories with the facts. He also used the moment to call out Steve Stoute for allegedly spreading lies about him, adding to the tension surrounding the case.

As Dash continues to push back against the false narratives, one thing is clear: the fight over Reasonable Doubt is far from over. For now, the album’s rights remain securely with Roc-A-Fella Records, a point Dash wants everyone to understand clearly.

For anyone following the saga, Dash’s message is straightforward: “We’re still for sale. This chain is still available,” he said, emphasizing that the true value of the album lies in its long-term ownership, not a temporary one.
