UPDATE: Nicole “Niki” Evers-Everette, the granddaughter of Civil Rights leader Medgar Evers, has been found after being reported missing in Georgia. Gwinnett County Police Department noted that her family has been notified.

Evers-Everette had been missing for nearly a week and was last seen at her apartment in Duluth, Georgia, on September 22, and her vehicle was later found abandoned in Henry County.

Her mother, Reena Evers-Everette, expressed her concern in a statement released by the Georgia NAACP, emphasizing how out of character this situation wass for her daughter. “She hasn’t been to work, and we haven’t been able to contact her,” Reena said. “Niki doesn’t have her phone, purse, or other personal items with her.”

Nicole Evers-Everette is the granddaughter of Medgar Evers, a pivotal figure in the Civil Rights Movement. Evers was the NAACP’s first field officer in Mississippi and worked tirelessly to fight segregation and investigate the 1955 lynching of Emmett Till. Evers was assassinated in 1963, and his legacy continues to be honored by his family and community.

In addition to her family’s efforts, the Georgia NAACP has joined the search and is calling on the public to stay vigilant. “Nicole is a valued member of our community, and we are working to ensure her safe return,” the organization said in a statement.
