Tesla continues to push the boundaries of tech, and at last night’s Cybercab event, they showed just how far they’re willing to go. As part of the grand reveal, a fleet of Tesla’s Optimus humanoid robots made a dramatic entrance alongside the company’s newest concept vehicle—the futuristic Robovan. But the real showstopper wasn’t just the Robovan; it was what the Optimus robots could actually do.
A demonstration video revealed the Optimus in action, performing everyday tasks like bringing packages in from the porch, watering plants, and even serving drinks. As if that wasn’t enough, Tesla CEO Elon Musk gave the crowd more reasons to be amazed. “The Optimus will walk amongst you,” he announced, his enthusiasm evident. Musk explained that these robots are designed to blend seamlessly into everyday life, helping with everything from mundane chores to more personalized tasks.
“You’ll be able to walk right up to them, and they will serve drinks,” Musk quipped, getting laughs from the crowd. But he didn’t stop there. He painted a vision of a world where your robot could walk your dog, babysit your kids, mow your lawn, and, of course, pour you a drink at the end of a long day. According to Musk, these versatile bots will eventually be available for $20,000 to $30,000, making them accessible to the average household “in the long term.”
Adding a touch of celebrity excitement to the night, rapper 2 Chainz made an appearance and shared the experience with his followers on Instagram. In a video clip, he’s seen chatting with an Optimus robot, even asking it if it could play basketball. While the robot didn’t hit the court, the interaction highlighted the human-like qualities Tesla aims to bring to its robots, blending AI with a touch of personality.
Tesla’s Optimus is more than just a concept; it’s a signal of where Musk believes the future is headed. And with promises of an intelligent assistant that can handle tasks as varied as dog walking and lawn mowing, it seems the future of smart home tech just got a lot more exciting.
Would you spend $20,000 on a robot to handle your daily chores? With Musk’s vision, it might not be long before that’s a reality for households everywhere.
