Patek Philippe’s Cubitus line, its first new collection in 25 years, made an unexpected debut after an ad leaked early, sparking surprise and skepticism among watch enthusiasts.

Ok the cubitus is real… wtf Patek 😂

Many collectors initially thought it was a hoax.  The new Cubitus bears a close resemblance to the brand’s iconic Nautilus model but with notable updates. The platinum Ref. 5822P, estimated to cost $88,378, features a similar navy embossed pattern and hour markers but sports a more square-shaped octagonal case, giving it a more rugged appearance.

A standout feature is the large date at 12 o’clock, and the watch comes with a strap made of a durable composite material, which replaced the original platinum bracelet for weight reasons. The new movement, Caliber 240 PS CI J LU, integrates a large date, moon phase, and day of the week functions, with six patents filed for its innovations. Other models in the collection include the Ref. 5821/1A, reportedly $41,243, in steel with an olive green dial and the Ref.  5821/1AR will likely cost roughly $61,276 and comes in steel and rose gold with a navy dial.  Both retain design elements seen in previous Nautilus and Aquanaut watches.

Early reactions to the leak were mixed, with some critics calling it too similar to the Nautilus. However, demand is expected to remain high, with many collectors scrambling to secure a piece. Despite the criticism, Patek Philippe president Thierry Stern is confident the Cubitus will appeal to both existing clients and younger audiences. However, availability will be limited, with priority given to VIP customers.
