Lorenzo Dechalus, better known as Lord Jamar, recently sparked outrage with his inflammatory remarks about Vice President Kamala Harris during an appearance on The Art of Dialogue podcast. The rapper, also a founding member of the influential hip-hop group Brand Nubian, referred to Harris with a derogatory term, calling her a “bitch” and suggesting she wasn’t even qualified to work at Dunkin’ Donuts.

His comments quickly ignited backlash, with critics accusing Jamar of crossing a line and using misogynistic language to express his political disagreements with Harris. The controversy led Jamar to appear on Piers Morgan Uncensored, where political commentator Marc Lamont Hill confronted him about the offensive nature of his remarks.
After facing mounting criticism, Jamar has since issued a public apology. In a video shared online, he expressed regret for his comments about Vice President Harris. “As a man, I’m going to admit when I was wrong, and that I did cross the line,” he stated. “Yes, I shouldn’t have called her the names that I called her… it definitely was cringeworthy.”

Jamar acknowledged the impact his words had and explained that he understood the backlash he received. “We have to really be mindful of where our words can travel to… like a bullet, once you release them, it’s hard to take them back,” he said. Jamar also promised that in the future, he would avoid speaking about women in such a disrespectful manner, regardless of whether he agrees with them or not. “She is Madam Vice President, whether we like it or not, and that’s how she should be addressed,” he added.
In his apology, Jamar admitted that upon reflecting on his words, he realized they were hurtful and unnecessary. “After watching it myself, it definitely was cringeworthy,” he said, expressing regret for the offensive language. “I would like to just extend my apologies to her and all those that felt offended by my comments.”
Jamar, known for his strong opinions, acknowledged the criticisms he’s received and emphasized that he understands why people were upset. He apologized not only to Kamala Harris but also to anyone who felt disrespected by his remarks. “I understand the criticism of me, and all I can say is pardon me. I’m offering my apology,” he said.
The rapper also promised to be more thoughtful in how he addresses women in the future, stating, “In the future, I will not speak of her in such a way, whether I disagree with her or not… and attempt to not speak about any women in such a way, to be honest.”
Lord Jamar concluded his video by acknowledging Kamala Harris’s position and offering a more respectful tone moving forward. “She is Madam Vice President, whether we like it or not, and that’s how she should be addressed. Peace and love,” he said, wrapping up his apology with a call for unity and respect.
While Lord Jamar’s apology is a step towards accountability, the rapper’s controversial history continues to haunt him. As the dust settles, many are left questioning whether his public apology will be enough to repair the damage caused by his remarks, or if his past will continue to overshadow his public image.
