San Francisco 49ers rookie wide receiver Ricky Pearsall is expected to make his NFL debut after being shot in the chest nearly seven weeks ago.

On August 31st, the 24-year-old was shot during an attempted robbery in San Francisco’s Union Square. According to reports, the 17-year-old suspect tried to steal Pearsall’s watch while he was heading to a signing event. Luckily, he was able to dodge life-threatening injuries, as the bullet bypassed any vital organs. Pearsall was released from the hospital the following day and was placed on the non-football injury (NFI) list.

However, he returned to practice earlier this week, showcasing good signs of a healthy recovery.  Head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters that Pearsall would be ready to play in the 49ers’ week seven matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs.

“He’s had a hell of a week, and we’re pumped to get him in there,” Shanahan said. “He’s working his butt off to catch up.”

In the 2024 NFL Draft, Pearsall was drafted 31st overall, making him the sixth wide receiver to be chosen during the opening round. Prior to the shooting, Pearsall’s preseason preparation had taken a hit after a shoulder and hamstring limited his ability to participate in training camp.

Nonetheless, Pearsall’s return to the field is not only remarkable but also comes at a great time. The 49ers’ upcoming game against the Chiefs is highly anticipated as a rematch from last year’s Super Bowl.
