Kim Kardashian is once again using her platform to shine a light on criminal justice reform, and this time, she’s focusing on Lyle and Erik Menendez.
After the Los Angeles District Attorney requested resentencing for the brothers, Kardashian took to Instagram to celebrate the decision.
“Your commitment to fairness and truth is commendable,” Kim praised DA George Gascón in a post, acknowledging his push for a second look at the Menendez case. She also gave a shoutout to the brothers’ friends, family, and supporters, adding, “Your voices were heard.”
In a follow-up post, Kim highlighted the change in the brothers’ legal status.
“Due to a California law passed in 2015, anyone sentenced to life before turning 25 can seek parole after serving 25 years. With Lyle and Erik Menendez behind bars for 35 years, they now qualify as ‘youthful offenders’ and are eligible for parole.”
The Menendez brother’s case has long been controversial, but with this recent development, the possibility of freedom is finally on the table.
Erik and Lyle Menendez became infamous for the brutal murders of their parents, José and Mary in 1989. The men claimed they suffered sexual abuse at the hands of their father as their mother refused to help.
