Denzel Washington was recently surprised by his sons John David and Malcolm, who posed as fans to ask him if he performs his own stunts. He answered transparently, revealing that he was slowly moving away from his more action-packed scenes.
The fun unfolded during a chat with Jake Hamilton for his “Jake’s Takes” series. Hamilton claimed Washington supporters wanted to ask him the question, though when he showed his phone screen, it was the actor’s filmmaking children. The “Gladiator II” star laughed before answering.
“I do some of my own stunts…my days of doing my own stunts are getting near to the end,” the 69-year-old admitted.
In recent years, Washington has remained committed to performing in high-powered roles. “The Equalizer 3” director Antoine Fuqua told Yahoo Entertainment last year, “He’s still got it. He trains every day.”
Washington is known for dramatic flicks. He has become a staple in the “Equalizer” franchise and was also a star of the cult classic, “Training Day.” In his latest Oscar-worthy film, “Gladiator II,” Washington tackles the role of Macrinus, an enslaver and head of an army, in this sequel to the 2000 blockbuster hit. In several previews, his character is seen in various stages of battle. However, while some of this may be Washington, he has no shame in getting assistance from a stunt professional.
