Nintendo is entering the themed hospitality industry further by filing new trademarks in Japan, hinting at exciting plans for hotels and restaurants.
The applications submitted on October 11th, 2024, fall under Class 43, which includes lodging and food services. What makes these trademark filings particularly intriguing is the inclusion of references to beloved Nintendo franchises. Titles like “Animal Crossing,” “Splatoon,” “Pikmin,” and “Super Smash Bros.” are specifically mentioned, raising the possibility of uniquely themed establishments.
Currently, these trademarks are registered only in Japan. While multiple cafes are associated with the brand, industry analysts speculate that Nintendo may have plans for increased international expansions, especially in light of the success of “Super Nintendo World” at Universal Studios. This theme park has already proven significant interest in Nintendo-themed experiences. The news about Nintendo’s recent trademark filings coincided with the official opening of the first Nintendo Museum in Kyoto. There are rumored plans for the gallery to include its own eatery soon.
It’s crucial to remember that filing a trademark signals intent, but it does not guarantee that these projects will come to fruition. Nevertheless, this move suggests that Nintendo is exploring new avenues to engage with its fanbase.
