In the latest update on the RICO case involving rapper Young Thug, co-defendant Quamarvious Nichols has accepted a plea deal. He received a 20-year sentence, with seven years to be served in prison.
Nichols, 29, pled guilty to conspiracy under Georgia’s Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations statute, allowing him to avoid charges including murder, gang activity, and gun possession. Superior Court Judge Paige Whitaker approved the deal, granting Nichols credit for time served and probation upon his release.
Judge Whitaker advised Nichols to see this decision as a “birthday present” to himself and his family, with Nichols nearing his 30th birthday. This development comes amid the long-running case, which initially named 27 co-defendants, including Grammy-winning rapper Young Thug, whose real name is Jeffery Lamar Williams.
Last week, defense attorneys pushed for a mistrial after prosecutors mistakenly introduced a social media post showing the hashtag “#freequa,” implying Nichols’ incarceration to the jury, a detail that was meant to be kept from them. However, the case continues for Young Thug and four other co-defendants.
Young Thug and the alleged members of Young Slime Life (YSL) stand accused of gang-related activities, from robbery to murder. Prosecutors contend that YSL, linked to the Bloods, operated in Atlanta and carried out multiple violent crimes, while the defense argues the RICO statute unfairly targets hip-hop culture. The trial, which began with jury selection in early 2023, has faced numerous delays. Several defendants have taken plea deals, with Young Thug remaining among the few still challenging the charges.
