A shocking tragedy has unfolded in New York, where a mother, 33-year-old Chianti Means, reportedly leaped from Niagara Falls holding her two young children.
Investigators have deemed this heartbreaking act “intentional,” though it’s unclear what motivated Means. The chilling scene took place Monday night on Luna Island, a popular but secluded viewpoint above the falls, where Means crossed a chest-high guardrail with her 9-year-old son, Roman, and 5-month-old baby, Mecca.
Emergency responders arrived around 9 p.m. but have yet to recover any of the bodies. Means, who worked as a domestic violence counselor, leaves behind a haunting legacy as both a professional advocate and a mother. In the days before this tragic incident, her last social media posts hinted at a possible breakup.
“Everyone please leave me alone I’m in love with my daughter father,” she wrote on October 1st, the New York Post reported. “I want my family back. Respectfully Idgaf what I said about him before or what anyone else thinks.”
In another post, she suggested being “obsessed” with someone. That individual has not come forward. Means and her children reportedly resided in the region, where she spent her career supporting others through crises. Luna Island, where the incident occurred, is perched over a nearly 200-foot drop and is just one of several overlooks drawing more than eight million visitors to Niagara Falls State Park each year.
